Players of the Week on the KEOM Sports Broadcasts Friday-May 14, 2010 Kelsey Baker and Blair Beard both homered for the Lady Jags in the third game of the Regional Quater Final series vs. A&M Consolidated to lead the comeback win the Horn. With the 4-3 win the Jags now head to the fourth round of the softball playoffs where they will meet Tomball. Thursday-May 6, 2010 Poteet Pirate pitcher, Austin Blount pitched a complete game shut out in game one of the Bi-District series vs. Midway. PHS won the game 2 - 0. Blunt recorded 7 strike outs. Friday-April 30, 2010 Horn Lady Jag pitcher, Jordan Bullard pitched a shut out in the Bi District playoff game against Temple. Bullard allowed no runs and only three hits to the opposition. Horn claimed the Bi District crown with a 6-0 win. Horn is now 24-4 on the season and the Jags are ranked in the Top Ten in the State softball poll! Tuesday-April 20, 2010 Mesquite HS freshman Victoria Bice pitched he third consecutive no hitter and struck out 14 in the Lady Skeeter's softball win over John Tyler! MHS won the contest 18-0. Friday-April 16, 2010 Skeeter, Zac Good went 2 for 3 with a triple and a home run and four RBI's in Mesquite's 5-1 win over Horn in baseball. The Skeeters are now 22-2 on the season! Horn's Jordan Bullard pitched a perfect game and struck out 9 in Horn's 10-0 win over Tyler Lee in softball. Horn is ranked #12 in the State 5A softball poll. 11/25/06: MHS senior wide receiver Krys Buerk had a huge game for the Skeeters in the Area Championship game of the playoffs against the Allen Eagles. Buerk had 9 catches for 234 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Skeeters tallied over 500 yards of total offense but lost to Allen 59-42. 11/10/06: West Mesquite wide receiver, Jawanza Mitchell had a big game for the Wranglers in their game against Highland Park. Mitchell caught 4 passes for 142 yard and one touchdown. His touchdown was a 75 yard catch and run that gave West a 15-6 lead over the Scots in the second quarter. 11/03/06: Skeeter wide receiver, Adrian Richards, continued his fine season with a big game this past week against Longview. Richards had six catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns. 11/02/06: The Poteet Pirate offensive line has done a great job all year long. They did it again this week in their 26-15 win over Forney. The Pirates had 355 yards of total offense in the game. Taylor Dupree ran for 160 yards and QB Seth Sartain passed for 142. 10/27/06: MHS receiver Krys Buerck had three catches Friday night... all for touchdowns, in the Skeeters big win over Horn! 10/26/06: West Mesquite QB, Kendall Thomas set a new school single season passing record this past week in their game vs. Heath. He now has 1,400 yds. passing in 2006. This broke the old record set by Doug Boyd back in 1986. 10/20/06: Jeremy Hernandez moved to the offensive side of the football Friday night for Mesquite High School. The Skeeters won big. Hernandez played his normal defensive back position but he also played at QB in the Sketters big game vs. NM. Jeremy had 132 rushing and 2 TD's in Mesquites 41-9 win. Wrangler QB, Kendall Thomas had another big game for the Wranglers in WM's victory over Poteet at Hanby Stadium. Thomas passed for well over 200 yards for the second week in a row. WM is now 6-1, 4-0. 10/6/06: West Mesquite QB, Kendall Thomas passed for 272 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another TD in the Wranglers 31-14 win over Richardson Pearce. WM is now 4-1, 1-0 on the year. 9/30/06: Skeeter junior QB, Kelly Page ran for one touchdown (59 yds.) and passed for another as MHS beat Midland Lee 31-7. The Skeeters are now 5-1. 9/22/06: Larry Williams rushed for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns in West Mesquites win over Frisco Centinnel. WM is now 2-1 on the year. 9/15/06: North Mesquite QB, Derek Wooten passed for over 300 yards and four touchdowns in the Stallions win over Plano West. Wooten is the leading passer in 5A football in the area after three weeks of play. 9/9/06: Seth Sartain and Taylor Dupree both had over 100 yards rushing in Poteet's 32-14 win over Wylie. With the win the Pirates move to 2-0 on the season. 9/1/06: North Mesquite got big games from two offensive players in their opening night win vs. North Garland. QB Derek Wooten passed for 389 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. All four touchdown passes were caught by receiver Daymond Patterson. On defense, cornerback Larry Rosebud intercepted a pass and blocked a punt for the Stallions. The West Mesqutie Wranglers had a huge win over ranked Corsicana on week one of the season. Defensive back Markeith Elder had two interceptions for WM.
8/25/05... North Mesquite vs. Skyline. Offensive Player of the Game: NM running back Aldarius Thompson ran the ball very well for the Stallions on week one of the season. Defensive Player of the Game: LB'er Jordan Guidry lead the Stallion defense against the Raiders. Skyline won the game 21-16. 8/26/05... West Mesquite vs. BA. Offensive Player of the Game: Roderick Smith ran the opening kickoff of the season back 95 yards for a WM touchdown. The Wranglers cruised on to a 34-8 win. 8/27/05... Mesquite vs. Allen. Offensive Player of the Game: Kelly Page started his first game as the Skeeter quarterback on Saturday against the Allen Eagles. The sophomore qb rushed for 128 yards for the maroon and white. Defensive Players of the Game: Darren Lewis and Jeremy Hernandez lead the way for the Skeeter defense versus the Eagles. Lewis also did a nice job of returning kicks for Mesquite. 9/02/05... Poteet vs. McKinney North. Offensive Player of the Week: Pirate running back Taylor Dupree had over 200 yards rushing in the Poteet 16-0 win over McKinney North. Defensive Players of the Week: Poteet middle linebacker Clint Owens and defensive tackle Jacob Brockette lead the defense as they recorded a shut out. The Pirates have not given up a touchdown to their opponent through two weeks of play. 9/08/05... Poteet vs. Sulphur Springs. Offensive Player of the Week: Ben Bishop hit a 42 yard field goal on the last play of the game to give the Pirates a 38-35 win over Sulphur Springs. Calvin Smith stepped into the running back position when the Pirates starter was hurt at that position. Smith scored 3 td's for the Pirates. 9/09/05... Horn vs. Jesuit. Offensive Players of the Week: Mon Williams had over 250 yards rushing in the Jags 48-27 win. QB Steven Schwark passed for 130 yards and two td's. The senior QB also ran for two scores. Defensive Player of the Week: DL Tony Watkins was tough in the middle of the Horn defense all night long. 9/16/05... North Mesquite vs. Grand Prairie. Offensive Player of the Week: Stallion RB Aldarius Thompson had 159 yards rushing on only 13 carries in the Stallions win over GP. Defensive Players of the Week: NM linebacker, Laron Elmer was in on tackles from sideline to sideline all evening long. Defensive back Larry Rosebud played well in the secondary for the Stallions and he also returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown! 9/30/05... Mesquite vs. North Mesquite. Offensive Player of the Week: MHS place kicker, Eddie Carpio hit a 28 yard field goal in OT to give the Skeeters a 13-10 win over NM. Defensive Player of the Week: DB's Jesse Hernandez and Jamarte Jackson played strong defensive games for the Skeeter defense. NM linebacker, Laron Elmer turned in a strong preformance for the Stallions. 10/14... West Mesquite vs. Poteet. Offensive Player of the Week: WM running back Roderick Smith had 227 yards rushing in the Wranglers 21-19 win. Nick Allen of PHS had to come off the bench and play quarterback for the Pirates. Nick, normally a wide receiver played very well in the new role. Defensive Player of the Week: Wrangler linebacker Maurice Osbourne was in on many tackles and had the biggest hits of the night. 10/21/05... Horn vs. Mesquite. Offensive Player of the Week: Horn running back Mon Williams returned a kickoff for a touchdown and had well over 100 yards rushing in the Jags 31-28 win over MHS. Senior quaterback Steven Schwark passed for over 100 yards for the Jaguars. 10/28/05... North Mesquite vs. Longview. Offensive Player of the Week: Stallion QB, Derek Wooten completed 20 of 32 passes for 125 against the Lobo defense. Defensive Player of the Week: NM defensive end Scott Flick pressured the Longview quarterback all night long and recorded numerous sacks or hurries.
8/27/04... Poteet vs. Denton. Offensive Player of the Week: Taylor Dupree and Jansen Hyde. Taylor had 84 yards rushing for the Pirates and Jansen Hyde had two big receptions that helped spark the Poteet offense. Defensive Player of the Week: Defensive back Jeremy Rollins had an outstanding game for Poteet in their 14-7 win over Denton. The Pirate D held Denton to only seven first downs. 8/28/04... MHS vs. Allen. Offensive Player of the Week: Steven Harper had 102 yards rushing and 64 yards in receiving for the Skeeters in their first game of the season. Defensive Player of the Week: DB Dray Johnson intercepted an Allen pass and ran it back 28 yards for a MHS touchdown. 9/2/04... West Mesquite vs. Quinlan Ford. Offensive Player of the Week: Wrangler fullback Larry Owens had 226 yards rushing in West's 47-12 win over Q. Ford. Defensive Player of the Week: Defensive tackle Danjuan Carson and safety Kialyn Smith led the Wrangler defense to a good effort vs. the Panthers. 9/3/04... Horn vs. South Garland. Offensive Player of the Week: South Garland quarterback Derek Evans had over 250 yards passing against the Jags defense. Defensive Player of the Week: Olitan Oguntodo, the Jags defensive safety/ linebacker had a strong game and was in on a number of big plays. 9/10/04... North Mesquite vs. L.D. Bell. Offensive Player of the Week: Stallion quarterback, Ryan Witherspoon had 97 yards rushing and over 100 yards passing in NM's 26-13 win over L.D. Bell. The Stallions are now 2-1 on the season. 9/17/04... Poteet vs. Horn. Offensive Player of the Week: Poteet WR, Jansen Hyde and Jaguar RB Mon Williams both scored on big plays for their teams. Hyde scored on a 74 yard pass play and Williams had a 95 yard TD run! The Pirates tallied a 26-9 win. Defensive Player of the Week: Horn's Cordero Moore and Poteet's Brock Hesse. 10/1/04... Mesquite vs. North Mesquite. Offensive Player of the Week: Mesquite QB, Dray Johnson drew his second start of the season at that position and lead the Skeeters to a surprise win over NM. MHS won the game 34-19. Defensive Player of the Week: North Mesquite defensive back Chuck Carroll made many tackles during the night for the Stallions. 10/8/04... Poteet vs. Wylie. Offensive Player of the Week: Wylie QB Chance Gibson was outstanding. He passed for over 100 yards and rushed for about 100 more in leading his team to a big victory over Poteet. The win moved Wylie to 5-1, 1-0. Poteet dropped to 4-2, 0-1. Defensive Player of the Week: Brock Hesse, linebacker at PHS has been selected as a Channel 11 scholar athlete of the week! The award will be presented to Brock at this Friday's ball game at Memorial Stadium. 10/15/04... West Mesquite vs. Poteet. Defensive Player of the Week: Poteet defensive tackle Bryant Bray had a great game for the Pirate defense in their shutout win over the Wranglers. 11/12/04... Mesquite High School vs. South Garland - Bi-District Playoff Football: Offensive Players of the Week: The Skeeters had two backs go over 100 yards rushing vs. South in Mesquite's 51-37 win over the Colonels. QB Dray Johnson rushed for 119 yards and RB Steven Harper add 189 yards on the ground. The Skeeters tallied 529 yards of total offense! Harper scored four td's and Johnson passed for four TDs in the win. Defensive Player of the Week: Donnovan Plummer had a great game for the MHS defense and made many big plays. The Skeeters meet Carter in the Area Championship round of the playoffs Friday, 11/19. 11/19/04... Mesquite vs. Carter - Area Championship Football: Offensive Player of the Week: Dray Johnson had 206 yards rushing for the Skeeters from his quarterback spot. He also threw for 150 yards in MHS's 28-27 win over Carter. 11/26/04... Mesquite vs. Cedar Park. Regional Quarter-Finals. Offensive Player of the Week: Steven Haper's 92 yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, gave the Skeeters a chance at a comeback win in the third round of the playoffs. Defensive Player of the Week: Steven Keele and Rory Malone played well for the Skeeter defense in their third round playoff game at Texas Stadium. |
