Congrats to two MISD baseball players for winning some post season honors from District 10-6A!

Grant French, Sr., P/1B, Mesquite - Most Valuable Player
French was dominant on the mound for much of the 10-6A season, posting a 5-0 record with a 0.00 earned run average. In 37 innings, he struck out 45.

Isaac Allen, Sr., P, North Mesquite - Pitcher of the Year
Allen averaged nearly two strikeouts per innings (79 in 49 innings) and allowed only 34 hits.

Poteet Pirates Go Deep into the Baseball Playoffs!:

The Poteet Pirates are a hot baseball team right now. They qualified for the post season out of District 12-5A.  They beat the Hillcrest Panthers in the Bi Dist round of the playoffs, then they knocked off Little Elm in the second round.This last week they beat Heath 5-2 and 6-5 to move now to the Regional Semi Finals of 5A baseball.They will play Lufkin in a best two of three series beginning Thursday, May 26.  The series will be played at Mike Carter Field in Tyler, Texas and all games will be broadcast on KEOM radio at 88.5 FM or on line at KEOM.FM

Former Mesquite ISD football stars move on to the NFL!:
Jakeem Grant and Rashard Higgins have both been drafted by NFL teams! Rashard was taken by the Cleveland Browns in the 5th round and Jakeem Grant goes to the Miami Dolphins in the 6th round! Good luck to these two guys as they move up to the next level! Also, Trevone Boykin and Devanta Harris have signed as undrafted free agents: 
Trevone Boykin (WMHS-TCU) has signed as an undrafted Free Agent with Seattle and Devante Harris (JHHS-Texas A&M) has signed as an undrafted Free Agent with New Orleans.

Two MISD Softball Teams Head into the Playoffs:

The Poteet Lady Pirates and the Mesquite Lady Skeeters both play in the Bi District round of the softball playoffs this week!  Mesquite High plays a best two of three series vs. Irving.  Game one is Thursday night at 7:00 at the Mesquite Girls Softball Complex.  Game two of that series is Friday at 7:00 in Irving.  KEOM will broadcast the Skeeters Friday night ball game.

Horn HS 9th grader, Jace Brown has qualified for the UIL State Swim Meet in two events.

Jace will swim in the 100 back stroke and the 100 butterfly. The State Meet is in Austin on February 19 and 20. Good luck Jace!

Super Bowl News:

As part of the NFL's celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Super Bowl, they are sending "recognition footballs" to each high school that has had a player in the big game. North Mesquite High School will get two of these footballs. Joe Bowden and Tarell Brown, both former Stallions played in the Super Bowl! These footballs will be kept in the NMHS trophy case.

North Mesquite Standout

Jean Delance, standout offensive lineman for the NM Stallions has been one of the most highly recruited football players in the State. Recently, Jean announced that he will be playing his college football-starting next year- in Austin at the University of Texas!

Jaguar Duo Finishes Season Game Shy of National Title

Offensive Linemen Jonathan Alvarez and Erick Wren - graduates of John Horn High School, now Oklahoma Sooners- saw their season come to an end in a 37-17 effort to No. 1 Clemson in the Orange Bowl. Grant Finishes Highlight College Career at Tech

Former Horn Jaguar Jakeem Grant finished his historic stint at Texas Tech falling short in the Texas Bowl to LSU 56-27! He finished the game with 10 receptions for 125 yards and three touchdowns and ends his college career as the all time leading Tech receiver. College Success

Malik Jefferson, former Poteet Pirate - now a Texas Longhorn, has recently been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year!  Congratulations Malik!

The MISD Sends Three Football Teams to the Playoffs!

North Mesquite, Poteet and Horn all qualified for the 2015 Texas High School Football Playoffs.In Bi District action The Stallions of NM beat Irving MacArthur 56-25 while the Poteet Pirates picked up a 40-0 win over New Smith.  Horn lost their Bi Dist game to Jesuit 42-21. NM and Poteet move on now to play in the second round of post season play!

Another former MISD baseball player is doing well at the next level!
Damien Magnifico (NMHS) is currently playing for the Biloxi Shuckers - a AA minor league affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. He has been selected to play in the All Star game of the Southern League. The game is being played on June 23 in Montgomery, Alabama. This is Damien's 3rd minor league all-start appearance. Info from

Stallions Headed to State Soccer Tournament!

The North Mesquite boys soccer team beat Lake Travis 2-0 in the Regional Finals and have qualified to play in the State Soccer Tournament in Georgetown, April 16.  The Stallions are 22-3 as they head to this State competition.  North will play Brownsville Rivera Friday night, April 16 at 7:30 PM in the State Semi Finals.  If they win they play Saturday the 17th for the 6A State Championship.  KEOM radio will provide coverage of all of the action!


The two doubles tennis teams from West Mesquite High School won their district championship matches yesterday and have now qualified for the Regional Tennis Tournament. The girls doubles team was Maricela Garza and Crystal Solonga and the boys team was Joseph Mohan and Luis Aguilar. Congratulations and good luck at Regionals!

College Success

Former Poteet Pirate softball player, Madison Yanetti, is now a freshman in college and is playing softball at Arkansas. Saturday Madison hit her first collegiate home run! It was during a SEC game vs Georgia. Congrats Madison!

MHS Coach Reaches 400 Wins

West Mesquite Lady Wranglers named District Champs

The West Mesquite Wranglers are district champions again this year!   This is the 8th time in the last 9 nine years for the Lady Wrangles to be district basketball champs.  They have also already won the Bi District crown as well with a 54-41 win over Woodrow Wilson.  They play for the Area Championship Friday, Feb 20 vs The Colony.

Outstanding Former MISD Athletes

Former Mesquite Skeeter - Rashard Higgins (now a WR at Colorado State) has been named as one of three finalists for the Bilentnikoff Award given annually to the nation's top college receiver. Also...
Trevone Boykin, a former West Mesquite Wrangler and now the QB at TCU is a finalist for the Walter Camp Award which is given to the college football Player of the Year. These awards will be presented to the winners on December 11. Congratulations to these two guys...and good luck!

Volleyball Playoffs

Congratulations to the Horn and Poteet volleyball teams for making the playoffs! We will broadcast playoff volleyball next week.

Former Horn Receiver

Taylor Gabriel, former football player for Horn High School is now playing wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). After an outstanding career as a Horn Jag, Taylor played college football at Abilene Christian University where he was an All American receiver.  He ended his college career with 215 receptions for over 3,000 yards and 27n TDs!  He was signed by the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2014.  He has caught at least one pass in every game this season for the Browns.  

GREAT Stats from Friday night football (9-5-14)
West Mesquite quarterback, Chasen Virgil passed for 348 yards and 5 touchdowns in the Wranglers 60-7 win over Wylie Friday night! He also ran for two touchdowns. Wide receiver De Anderson had 9 catches for 183 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Wrangler defense held Wylie to only 8 first downs and 107 yards of offense!  The Wranglers are now 2 - 0  on the new season.

Poteet linebacker shines at Nike Recruit Event  

Poteet LB'er, Malik Jefferson recently ran a 4.39 forty yard dash and recorded a 39.7 inch vertical jump while in Oregon at a NIKE recruit event. He now has one of the highest SPARQ ratings in the nation!

North Mesquite Athlete is a State Champ! 

Aaron Akens, North Mesquite senior, won the 5A discus throw at the 2014 State Track Meet in Austin with a throw of 188 feet!  Congratulations to Aaron!

Five Track and Field Athletes Headed to State

Horn's Kodii Church, Emmanuel Ogwo and Zuliat Alli along with North Mesquite's Aaron Akens and Poteet's Steeven Martiez have qualified to compete at the UIL's State Track Meet on May 9-10 in Austin, TX.  This is Aken's second year in a row to compete at the State level in the discus throw.  Good luck to all of these fine student athletes as they compete at the State level!

New UIL Realignment for 2014-2016 for MISD Schools:
Mesquite, North Mesquite and Horn are in Dist 10-6A with HP and the Richardson ISD schools. West Mesquite and Poteet are in Dist 12-5A with Forney, North Forney, Heath, Royse City, South Garland and Terrell.
